Shows That I Watch: The IT Crowd Season 1

I haven’t been a fan of sitcoms for a while. The only sitcom I really watched and waiter for were local faves “Palibhasa Lalake”, “OK Fine Whatever” (and it’s spinoffs), and “Whattamen”. I liked the way they make the concept of machism a funny thing. If you’re a Filipino, you’ll notice these are the “naughty guys” sitcoms, and housed in the Kapamilyuck network.

I watched a few episodes of “Friends” and I didn’t like ‘em because the humor is so overboard and it felt awkward. My friend told me nobody doesn’t love “Friends”, but I just don’t.

Anyway, “The IT Crowd” has been criticized for bad writing and overboard acting. I may agree at some points, but they just simply want to look silly. In our company, the IT team is the cream of the crop. With this show, they seemed to be treated as the cream of the crap. Actually, the parody of “turning on and off again” the computers to make them work felt like a Windows setup, and since we’re a *nix environment,
we rarely encounter problems, not to mention that unresponsive computers is a no-no in the industry. Anyways, what I can say is this is a parody of the IT Team and the rest of the company’s struggle, not for power, but for stupidity and silliness, so I still don’t like IT (Crowd). It has been nominated for a BAFTA, and even though I could relate with Moss (shown as the very typical geek) and Roy (the lonely IT guy who just can’t have a girlfriend), I’d say it’s a total waste of talent and airtime.

Five stars out of ten for me, for production and acting efforts.
