Sad News Day: BoyBastos.com Takes a Break
At least I’m not being hypocritical! I mean OK, I visit Pinay beauty sites (thus the term Cebuanas), but it doesn’t really bother me having BoyBastos around. The site maintainer was right. There’s something “bastos” within us, except of course for those who took vows of celibacy (not particularly priests and / or nuns).
The State of Pornography
Admit it or not, even the ASF Dancers and the “Sex Bomb Dancers” suggest ideas of sexuality. “Margarita” and “Marimar” even have their own dose of libido, so there’s no way being “bastos” (“ero” in Japanese, nymphomaniac / pervert in English) is peculiar or any different. I didn’t mean that it’s OK to just jerk off in the streets and splatter sex juice among bystanders. The thing is, we all have personal discretions of what is morally wrong and what doesn’t hurt our society as much. If Senator Loren Legarda (why do I have this feeling that Senators become more showbiz-oriented these days than diplomatic?) urges (the word!) the House to kill all sorts of sites like this, won’t it be a violation of freedom of expression? If Mrs. Leviste feels it’s inappropriate to have such sites hosted, who f***ing cared? Hell, I won’t even know what the site is if not for this issue’s media circus!
The thing is, pornography is still hush hush. Senators shouldn’t be bothered if it’s still in this state. They should be bothered if most, if not all, our newspapers, magazines, and soap operas splatter sex juice in them, and result to unsightly realizations like rape, vulgar prostitution, and exhibitionism.
These oldies shouldn’t blame murders out of knives. It won’t help if you stop selling all knives, when people can make use of your regular toothbrush as item for murder. In other words, focus more on educating the public, that sex is not all about rape and prostitution. It’s something not to be scared of. It’s something that we need to face head on and analyze as we grow up.
Ruby-er Get-together
Recently, the Philippine Ruby Users Group suggested a meetup which they call “Ruby Happy Hour”, and I would be more that “happy” to be part of the event. Aside from the fact that there’s free food and drinks (OK, fine, not really sure if this is true), we get to meet people who do Ruby here in the Philippines, and talk about, well, Ruby. Pretty boring I guess for those socialites who look for dancing lights and thumping music, but this one, AFAIK, is the first non-geek meeting of the group.
The said event will be held at Customs Bar and Grill (inside Autocamp, Ortigas Ave., Pasig), on September 11 (hopefully won’t be a “disaster day”) starting at 6pm.
So fellow Filipino Rubyists, see you there!
Touchy-Feely iPod Lineup
And all the blogs are now posting about the greatness that is the new iPod Line. Might as well jump into the Bandwagon (pun intended). And the cool thing about everything else right now is that these iPod models are still reasonable (albeit cheap) for the features they give, especially the much-coveted iPhone that has dropped its price to $200 less than its launch price. More reasons for tech people out there to buy an iPhone.
The highlight, or anticipated moment, for this special announcement by Steve Jobs was the “multi-touch enabled”, iPhone-lookalike iPod Touch, which downgrades its storage size to 16GB max instead of the iPod “Classic’s” minimum of 80GB. Well, who can use up that much storage anyway (8GB)?
Another interesting note here is that the iPod Touch has Wifi in it. Not only Wifi-ala-Zune that just does “Apple Store” stuff, but Wifi like it should be. The new iPod Touch allows you to use Safari, and watch YouTube videos! Not to mention you also get the Photos functionality we get from the iPhone.
I know wishes seldom come true, but nothing bad will happen if I at least try to wish hard, right? (*grin*)
