Setting Up CoverCove.com
OK, the idea about a “Cover Idol” type of website was a bit uncool because, first off, there’s no prize for winning entries, and it just sucks that one person gets to choose the top three to be polled out. I don’t want to be a 3rd-rate Simon Cowell for YouTube videos. What I’ll do instead is maintain a blog with categories being the artist and title of the song, and I’ll do reviews of them, just like your old blogger / critic. Maybe someday, if the blog does become big, we can set up cyber-competitions for these untapped talents.
So, like this post’s title says, the name of the site will be covercove.com. I actually like the idea that the site’s name is an alliteration, and I can’t f***ing believe that the domain is available! And since I’m a Dreamhoster, and I haven’t used my free domain from the package, the domain setup really came in handy.
So guys, if you want your covers reviewed or shown to the entire blogging community, aside from being hidden inside YouTube, try emailing me your YouTube video links, or your videos files themselves (email me first before sending them to me, OK?), or suggest a song for me to pitch on the website. Email me any stuff (aside from SPAM) to suggest@covercove.com. Be the first to be featured in CoverCove.com.
Get out of the shower. Uncover your talent!
Just a booster / motivation for you guys, I present to you, the best cover artist I’ve heard so far, David Choi:
Cover Lover 1: Song of the Week – “The Old Songs”
Since I already started “judging” Rihanna’s “Umbrella” cover videos, I guess it’s nice to have a weekly series of posts about cover songs posted in YouTube. And what better way can I start this series than searching YouTube for my favorite song’s cover? Today, I’m in search for David Pomeranz’ “The Old Songs” cover videos, and you are free to nominate entries that might just pass these criteria:
- 40% Voice Quality (never mind the hissing video recorder)
- 40% Unique Sound (how the song was arranged, so basically, no Karaoke background music)
- 20% Amateur Factor (nominees must look as if they just came out of the bathroom and started singing this song)
To give you a teaser, here is my personal best pick:
Every Wednesday, I’ll be announcing the three videos that will qualify for polling, and on Saturdays, I’ll announce the winner (no prizes at stake so this might sound stupid and pointless) based on the votes, and the new song to cover. You can even make your own cover videos and send yourself in as a nominee. I’ll be putting up a separate blogsite for this, so you better watch out the new site!
For those who want to suggest songs for judging, or for those who want to send me their video links (preferrably YouTube), send your emails to covers@jofell.com.
Bulletproofing Babies is Not Funny
Jolo, my unofficial source of weird web stuff, has done it again. He sent me a link and it really got my attention:
Bulletproof Baby Official Website
It’s the most shocking demo I’ve seen so far! Why the hell will they promote the idea that babies would /could be killed in a shootout, or something? Does this show how the world has become, that even babies are not safe from other people’s pity?
I remember this documentary made by the award-winning director / writer of “Fahrenheit 9/11″, Michael Moore, about the Columbine High Massacre and the use of guns in the US. At first, it tells you about the seemingly weird fascination of Americans with guns, like every household should have at least one! Here in the Philippines, we don’t have much guns because they are freakin’ expensive, and each bullet costs as much as 1 kilo of rice. If you’re going to choose between the two, you’d know which one to choose, right? Anyways, the idea is that the American people thought about guns like cigarettes: they make you look sexy, powerful, and fabulous. And like cigarettes, they tend to destroy a part of their bodies one inch at a time. I don’t want to spoil the details of the documentary so I suggest you watch it.
I just can’t get over the irony of putting an innocent child in a stroller, and then gunning it with an automatic. It’s just… crazy!
Which fits this blog, by the way.
I still believe that the most effective (and cost-effective) way to keep your child out of harm is to establish good relationships with other people. We have it here in the Philippines. We kinda delve on things that are free, ‘ya know.
